Quick Guide: Laundry Room Remodel

Laundry Room Remodel

Remodeling a laundry room can be a challenge financially and mentally. We know the struggles of a laundry room remodel because we did our laundry room ourselves. Here are our money saving tips, hacks and some ideas so that you can remodel your laundry room like a pro!

This post is a quick guide: laundry room remodel.

Best Laundry Room Remodel Ideas

1. Small Laundry Room Remodel

When remodeling a small laundry room, it is crucial to utilize every inch of your room. Add shelving next to your laundry room cabinets or over the washer and dryer.

Try storing your laundry room baskets on the shelves and adding a rod for hanging clothing to dry!

We love this small laundry room look because it looks chic and functional! The monochromatic look of the walls and cabinets makes the room look bigger and stunning! This is a great idea to try in your laundry room remodel.

2. Laundry Room Remodel on a Budget

When remodeling a laundry room on a budget, it is crucial to consider the cost of each material. To save money on cabinetry, we recommend using stock cabinetry.

BEST PLACES TO BUY LAUNDRY ROOM CABINETS:

These stores have the most affordable laundry room cabinets to store your laundry room essentials. They also have a wide range of sizes, colors and styles that can suit any laundry room.

We purchased our laundry room cabinets from a local cabinet shop and asked for their stock cabinets. For our size laundry room, we paid about $1,400 for stock white shaker cabinets. They were worth every dollar and honestly are better quality than our Home Depot kitchen cabinets!

3. Laundry Room Remodel Farmhouse

A farmhouse laundry room remodel has hints of rustic style and contains different elements like ship lap and distressed wood.

This farmhouse laundry room has elements that we love like the glass jar with laundry detergent and powder. We also love the butcher block countertop over the washer and dryer. This is a perfect area to fold laundry and place your laundry room baskets.

4. Modern Laundry Room Remodel

We love this pop of blue in this modern room laundry room remodel! The blue tiles really compliment the cabinetry and the functional shelving is amazing.

This is one of our favorite laundry room remodel ideas and we predict this type of style to start trending this year!

5. Rustic Laundry Room Remodel

To achieve a rustic laundry room look, try the idea of using open shelving. A rustic open shelving option can be the perfect place to display the laundry room decor, but also a great storage place.

Laundry room shelving can also be much more affordable than installing cabinets.

6. Luxe Laundry Room Remodel

To make your laundry room remodel feel or look luxe add clean lines and stay away from the rustic decor. We suggest using black and white paints and selecting quality tiles.

How much does a laundry room remodel cost?

A laundry room remodel can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $12,000 depending on the size of the remodel and materials used. The average price for a laundry room remodel is about $230 per square foot.

  • electrical
  • plumbing

The Laundry Room Remodeling Process

When doing a whole house remodel, the laundry room is not always high priority on the list in terms of budget. This is how we remodeled our laundry room on a budget and still made it Pinterest worthy!

The Laundry Room Before

Our laundry room needed a complete cosmetic remodel! The walls were covered in brown paneling and had yellow cabinets that were from the 1970’s.

First step in the remodeling process was to get rid of the old! The demolition of our laundry room was minimal. We removed the old flooring and paneling and took down the cabinets.

If you are handy and can demolish a room yourself, this is an easy way that you can save money in your home remodel. We suggest if you have a big demolition project, to rent a container for a few days so that you do not have to worry about disposing of the junk. Trust me, it is worth the money on a dumpster.

A great way to save money in a laundry room remodel is to keep the original layout of the home the same. Whenever you change the placement or plumbing or electrical, your budget can rise. By working with the layout you already have, you could potentially save hundreds or dollars!

The next part of our laundry room remodel was the flooring. We used extra tile that was left over from the main house area.

Most of the time, contractors will order a surplus of tile for home renovations just in case the tiles break, chip, etc.. We suggest that if there is another space in your home that you plan on eventually remodeling then order extra tile to have on hand for future projects.

BEST LAUNDRY ROOM FLOORING IDEAS:

You may have noticed that we only linked porcelain tile. This is because we most porcelain tiles can withstand spills, pet stains, and high traffic. Tile is great for a laundry room remodel due to the fact that it was withstand any flooding compared to some of the other flooring options. Tile can also be more affordable than other materials and easily accessible in stores like Lowes and Home Depot.

We did some of the tile in our home ourselves and if you have time and patience, the tile is not too difficult to do and you could save you a lot of labor costs doing it yourself!

If you choose to do the tile yourself, we suggest selecting larger tiles that have simple shapes. Making larger grout lines also is a great beginner tip that we learned from our friend that is a professional in the field.

I found this helpful video on how to lay your own tile that is worth checking out! This video explains how to install your own laundry room tile for beginners.

Before of the Laundry Mudroom

Another way we saved money on this laundry mudroom remodel is by using leftover paint from another room. We knew this paint color would go well with the flooring since we already had it in the main area of our home. Using the same materials in two rooms makes it easier on the contractors and easier on the budget.

Keeping the old washer and dryer that are in the home when we purchased it was a budget saver! There was nothing wrong with them, they were just older but still functioning. Deep clean the washer and dryer inside and outside and they will look good as new!

After all the cosmetics were done, it was cabinet time! The original plan was to hang warm beige or taupe cabinets with gold hardware. Anytime you customize your cabinet colors and sizes your prices go up significantly. As a result, we decided to go with nicer quality “in stock” white shaker cabinets.

This is highly suggested if you want fast and easily accessible cabinets. Lowes and Home Depot sell pre painted cabinets in their stores that get the job done too. Add some crown molding and gold hardware and boom the project is done.
