After a lot of trial and error in my very own garden, I have discovered some tips and tricks to keeping your flowers looking manicured and beautiful all season long. When most people think about Summer flowers the sunflower definitely comes to their mind. SUNFLOWER CARE:
- WATERING: Grown sunflowers can be watered approximately once a week,
- SUNLIGHT: Sunflowers thrive in an environment with full sun and well drained soil.
- PLANTING: Be sure to plant your sunflowers in well drained soil about 2-3 feet deep and wide. It is best to plant these flowers after the last frost in early to mid Spring.
2. Roses
Roses are a classic choice for your summer garden and one of the best Summer flowers for a beginner. We adore roses because they are so versatile in color, size, and species so that you can customize your outdoor space with them.
ROSES CARE:
- WATERING: Roses require about one to two inches of water per week. Be sure to water the base of the plant when watering the roses to avoid the actual flowers from burning in the sun. (this rule applies to all flowers)
- PLANTING: Dig a hole about 2 feet deep by 2 feet wide for your roses. Be sure they are in a well drained area.
- SUNLIGHT: Roses prefer full sunlight which is about 6-8 hours a day.
- TIP: Be sure to cut off any dead flower heads with a pair of gardening shears to allow new blooms to constantly appear.
3. Lavender
In our opinion, lavender is a must-have addition to any summer garden! Not only does this summer flower give off such an amazing scent, it also serves as a natural insect repellent for pesky bugs like mosquitoes. Lavender is the best summer flowers for pots because they don’t require to much space to be planted in.
LAVENDER CARE:
- WATERING: Water your lavender about once every two weeks.
- PLANTING: Plant lavender well drained soil after the last frost in the Spring. They should be planted about 1 foot deep and wide into the ground. If you are planting your lavender in a pot be sure the pot has holes in the bottom to allow the lavender to drain properly.
- SUNLIGHT: Lavender requires full sun to thrive in the garden.

ZINNIA CARE:
- WATERING: Water these flowers about 2-3 times per week. This should be about 1 inch of water per week.
- PLANTING: Plant them in well-draining soil, and water the soil thoroughly after planting. A good rule of thumb is you want the hole they are going in to be double the size of the plants bulb.
- SUNLIGHT: Zinnias love the full sun!
TIP: Be sure to remove any dead foliage to promote new growth and get amazing blooms.
6. Cosmos

COSMOS CARE:
- SUNLIGHT: Cosmos prefer full sun or about 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.
- WATERING: Cosmos actually thrive in dry soil and don’t require regular watering. This makes them the best summer flowers for droughts.
- PLANTING: Plant your cosmos in well drained soil and in a hole about double the size of the plants bulb. Be sure to plant these flowers after the last frost or the soil reaches about 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
7. Geraniums
